A ring of brass, dressed in light. Around its entire circumference, above and below, individual hammered discs catch the glow from within and scatter it outward in every direction at once. The Virella does not illuminate a room. It animates it.
The disc collar is the Virella's defining quality. Each element is individually set, hammered, textured, angled slightly differently from its neighbour, so the light that reflects from one is never quite the same as the light that reflects from the next. The effect, as you move around the room, is of something alive: the discs catching and releasing warmth in a shifting composition that changes with every step and every hour.
The LED ring at the core provides the source, even, warm, and invisible from any normal viewing angle. The light that reaches the room has already passed through the disc collar, been caught, scattered, and softened. Nothing harsh. Nothing direct. Only warmth, distributed generously across the ceiling and table below in a way that makes every face beneath it look as though it belongs in a painting.
The brass canopy grounds it at the ceiling with a single considered disc, minimal hardware for a maximal piece. Four suspension wires hold the ring at 100cm with an effortlessness that makes the whole composition appear to float.
