There are pieces that arrive in a room and make it immediately, entirely more serious , not through imposing but through the quality of their darkness, the completeness of their tone, the refusal to offer anything unnecessary. The Nocturne console table is one of those pieces. A slim rectangular top in near-black textured material rests on two flat panel legs of the same dark tone , the whole piece unified in a single, dramatic material that carries the quality of obsidian or slate formed under extraordinary pressure. Graphic, architectural, entirely resolved. Place it against a pale wall where the contrast does the speaking, or against a dark one where it disappears into something magnificent.
