A room can hold its breath around a piece this still. The frame stretches long and close to the floor, its seat broken into soft horizontal folds that shift colour as the light moves across them, gold at noon, almost bronze by evening. One arm rolls inward like a held thought; the other end opens flat, low enough to forget you're not lying on the floor itself. In Jodhpur, hands worked the cognac leatherette slowly, by hand, until it carried that particular warmth no machine finish can fake, then set it onto a solid wood base, joined in blocks, grain left bare and unargued with. Beneath a coffered ceiling or the hush of a hotel atrium, it holds its ground without raising its voice. Whether in a Chelsea garden room or the corner of a quiet suite at dusk, this is the piece the rest of the room quietly orients around.
