There is a colour that human cultures have been reaching for since before recorded history , the blue of still water, of the sky seen through Byzantine glass, of the mosaic that lines the floors of the oldest Mediterranean rooms. Lapis arrives in that colour and stays there, entirely without apology. Its cylindrical body is covered in hand-laid mosaic: each turquoise fragment an irregular polygon placed with the quiet intention of a craft practice that has no shortcut and no substitute. The grout lines between each piece are the table's second surface , dark, precise, and giving the turquoise above them the particular luminosity that only contrast can achieve. The clean smooth top sits above the mosaic body with the calm of a surface that knows the object beneath it has already made the room's most important decision. At 35.5 centimeters across, Lapis is the table that makes a corner complete , and the morning cup that rests upon it the most considered one in the house.
