Herefordshire's soil runs a deep, distinctive red wherever the old sandstone breaks down into earth, pale streaks of chalk or sand cutting through it in narrow, irregular lines that never quite repeat from field to field. This rug carries that same warm, streaked ground: a deep clay-and-terracotta field marked by scattered horizontal strokes in cream, peach, and soft orange, each one a slightly different length, as if recording where the soil simply happened to lighten. Shaped by the weavers of Jaipur, the wool holds its marks in flat colour against the rust-toned base, with no carved relief doing the work. Beneath a Georgian cornice or poured concrete, the warmth carries its weight at any scale. In a Chelsea study, it keeps that deep, fertile red close to the floor.
