There's something almost theatrical about a chair that seems to be standing rather than simply resting, and this one does, balanced on oak legs shaped like something between a heel and a hoof, each one curving in at the ankle before flaring back out at the floor. Above them, bouclé gathers into one continuous, rounded form, the seat and back merging without a single seam to mark where one ends and the other begins. In Jodhpur, hands carved that oak by hand, shaping each leg's curve before fitting the upholstery to wrap around it whole. Against a plastered wall or beneath a bank of soft daylight, its sandy tone and sculptural legs read as object first, seating second. Settled into a Hampstead drawing room, or the corner of a hotel lounge at midday, this is the chair that looks like it's about to walk away the moment you stand up.
